This quote comes from a video presentation -Doctor Tony Compalo (Matt 25:42-46) People, we think we’re Christians because we don’t booze it up, or sleep around, or curse: BIG DEAL.  This is the measure on judgement day: I was hungry did you feed me, I was naked did you clothe me, sick did you minister to me, a stranger did you take me in.  And I know what you’re going to say, “but Lord, I never slept around, BUT I WAS HUNGRY, but Lord, I never boozed it up, BUT I WAS HUNGRY SAYS JESUS, but Lord, I never went to see those dirty movies, I WAS HUNGRY… AND AS MUCH AS YOU FAILED TO DO IT TO THE LEAST OF THESE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS YOU FAILED TO DO IT TO ME.

The principle is that God is the owner and we are the stewards of all that we possess. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:1.

We are to be FAMILY to the helpless!  Matthew 12:48-50  He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Proverbs 14:21 – Whoever despises his neighbour is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.
Proverbs 14:31- Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honours him.
Proverbs 19:17- Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
Proverbs 21:13 – Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.
Proverbs 28:27 – Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
Isaiah 58: 6, 7 – “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? (7)  Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Isaiah 61:1 – The Year of the Lord’s Favour The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound
Ezekiel 16:49 – Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor & needy.
2 Corinthians 8:9 – For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.
Galatians 2:10 – Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.

Leviticus 19:9  “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.  (10) Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.

James 1:27 – Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

James 2:5 – Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?

James 2:14 -18 – What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?  Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.   If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?   In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”  Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God.
